Apple to Transition to In-House Modems for New Product Launch in 2027, According to Report

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple plans to implement its new in-house modems in another device by 2027: the M6 iPad Pro.

Apple’s in-house modems made their debut in the recently launched iPhone 16e. Named C1, this modem has entered the market as a competitive option but does not support mmWave technology just yet; however, Apple is committed to developing future versions to achieve flagship capabilities.

Gurman notes that a next-generation iPad Pro with M6 will transition to Apple’s proprietary modems, replacing the Qualcomm modems currently found in cellular iPad Pro models:

The company has also started early work on M6 versions with in-house modem chips, which are being targeted for 2027.

While the M6 iPad Pro is already circulating in rumors, it will not be the immediate successor to the iPad Pro. Apple is gearing up for the M5 iPad Pro, expected to arrive as soon as later this year, likely in October, per Gurman’s insights.
