Apple has rolled out new firmware for AirPods Pro 2, marking the first update since iOS 18.1 introduced robust new hearing health functionalities. AirPods 4 has also received an update. Here are the specifics.
Update 11/12: Just a day later, Apple has made the same firmware versions available for developers as well.
New firmware marks the first since iOS 18.1’s hearing health functionalities
The previous firmware version for AirPods Pro 2 was build 7B19.
This update was released just prior to the launch of iOS 18.1, which added a suite of three new hearing health features:
- Hearing Aid
- Hearing Test
- Hearing Protection
As of today, the company has issued build 7B21 for all models of AirPods Pro 2.
While the exact changes introduced by the latest firmware are not specified, it likely includes enhancements and bug fixes for some of the new features launched in the previous version.
AirPods 4 were also recently updated to 7B19, but they do not have access to the hearing health functionalities that are exclusive to the Pro models.
Today, Apple has released a new build 7B20 for users of AirPods 4.
For more details about the updates, you can check Apple’s AirPods firmware page, which typically contains standard notes like “Bug fixes and other improvements.”
As is the case with all AirPods firmware updates, there is no manual method to initiate the download; instead, your AirPods will conduct the update automatically in the coming days.
Have your AirPods received the new firmware? Have you noticed any differences? We’d love to hear your feedback in the comments.
