Apple Wallet Expands Digital ID Support to Additional State

Apple is progressively expanding its Wallet digital ID initiative to include more states across the US, allowing users to store their driver’s licenses digitally on their iPhones and Apple Watches. The most recent addition to this program is New Mexico, which now offers digital IDs.

New Mexico Joins the Digital ID Revolution

The state of New Mexico has officially rolled out support for digital IDs on iPhones through the Wallet app.

If you’re a New Mexico resident, you can easily add your driver’s license or state ID for accessibility on your iPhone or Apple Watch.

Getting started is simple if you have a New Mexico ID:

To add your ID to your iPhone and any paired Apple Watch, launch Apple Wallet and tap the plus sign (+) located at the top-right corner of the screen. Choose Driver’s License or State ID, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

The government of New Mexico has provided a crucial disclaimer regarding the availability of digital IDs: “ID in Apple Wallet is available…at select TSA checkpoints (travelers should consult checkpoint signage for confirmation). ID verifier is also available at select retailers.

After an initially slow adoption of digital IDs in Wallet, there is now growing momentum surrounding this feature.

Earlier this year, California joined the ranks of states supporting digital IDs, a development that took longer than anticipated for Apple’s home state but significantly boosted the population of supported devices.
