Apple Watch Ultra 3: Three Exciting New Features Launching This Year

The Apple Watch Ultra, aside from its sleek new black titanium finish, hasn’t received significant upgrades since 2023. However, things are set to change later this year with the introduction of the Apple Watch Ultra 3. Below are three exciting features expected with the new model.

High Blood Pressure Detection

With each Apple Watch update, new health features are a given. Reports from Mark Gurman indicate that this year Apple aims to launch a high blood pressure detection feature:

This blood pressure detection is intended to function similar to Apple’s sleep apnea feature. Users won’t receive exact measurements like diastolic or systolic values, but they will be alerted if they may be experiencing hypertension.

Gurman mentions that this capability has been in development for several years and has encountered delays, but it’s currently on track for a launch this year.

Satellite Messaging Without an iPhone

The Apple Watch Ultra has consistently catered to adventurers and explorers, attracting those with more casual lifestyles as well. The Ultra 3 is set to introduce a new feature specifically for those venturing off the beaten path.

Satellite messaging will now be available on the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

Here’s what Gurman shared:

This technology enables smartwatch users to send text messages via Globalstar Inc.’s satellite network, even when they lack cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.

iPhone users have utilized this technology for several years, and it improved significantly with the iOS 18 update. However, the Apple Watch has never had its own satellite capabilities. With the Ultra 3, users can leave their iPhones behind and fully embrace outdoor adventures.

5G Cellular for the First Time

This third upgrade also enhances connectivity features. Unlike previous models of the Apple Watch Ultra, which were limited to 4G LTE, Apple intends to incorporate 5G into the Ultra 3 this year.

This advancement will reportedly utilize 5G Redcap, a more power-efficient version of 5G. While Redcap may not achieve the same peak speeds as the 5G available on iPhones, it will allow the Watch to maintain battery efficiency.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 Summary

The anticipated Apple Watch Ultra 3 won’t debut until the fall, giving ample opportunity for further feature revelations. We might even see improvements in battery performance this time around. As it stands, Apple appears committed to making the Ultra 3 the ultimate choice for adventurers.
