Ubiquiti has unveiled its latest Enterprise Wi-Fi 7 series, a range of sophisticated access points crafted to provide exceptional wireless performance tailored for enterprise applications. These access points, boasting tri-radio Wi-Fi 7 support, are designed to enhance connectivity in high-density settings.

About Apple @ Work: Bradley Chambers oversaw an enterprise IT network from 2009 to 2021. Drawing from his extensive experience with deploying and managing firewalls, switches, mobile device management systems, enterprise-grade Wi-Fi, and thousands of Macs and iPads, Bradley will discuss strategies for Apple IT managers in deploying Apple devices, constructing supportive networks, training users, sharing real-world IT management stories, and suggesting improvements for Apple’s offerings for IT departments.

An in-depth look at the product lineup:

  • Enterprise 7: Offers coverage up to 2,000 ft² with 10-stream Wi-Fi 7 capabilities, accommodating over 1,000 devices in demanding networks.
  • Enterprise 7 Campus: Built to be robust with an IP67 rating and PRISM™ RF filtering, perfect for campuses or outdoor applications.
  • Enterprise 7 Audience: Designed for high-density venues such as sports stadiums and large arenas, featuring 12 spatial streams, customizable beam widths, and IP68 durability supporting up to 1,500 connected devices. A key point to remember is that water can attenuate RF signals, as humans are largely composed of water.

Highlighted Features:

  • 6 GHz Extended Range Mode: Enhances performance over extended distances while maintaining reliability.
  • 10 GbE PoE++ Uplink: Ensures high-speed connections and redundancy with an extra GbE port.
  • Spectral Scanning and RF Filtering: Minimizes interference, optimizing the performance of the network.

These devices promise seamless integration for businesses in need of high reliability and performance.

And Apple’s Status:

The iPhone 16 series from Apple currently supports Wi-Fi 7, benefiting from the enhanced speed and lower latency of the technology. However, the latest Macs equipped with M4 chips, such as the MacBook Pro and iMac, are still utilizing Wi-Fi 6E. It’s worth noting that the iPhone 16’s implementation supports a maximum channel bandwidth of 160MHz, as opposed to the full 320MHz capacity that Wi-Fi 7 offers. This discrepancy points to Wi-Fi 7 being in its early adoption phase, as both infrastructure and practical advantages for most users continue to evolve.

DMN’s Perspective

While Wi-Fi 7 is still emerging, it represents a significant advancement in wireless technology. Ubiquiti’s new series of enterprise access points caters to environments demanding high reliability and performance, such as stadiums and large campuses. On the Apple front, seeing Wi-Fi 7 included with the iPhone 16 is intriguing but its absence in Macs is notable. This slower implementation for Macs could imply that Apple is biding its time for broader adoption or clearer advantages for desktop users. As Wi-Fi 7 routers gain popularity, it’s likely we will see an increasing influence on Apple’s product range; however, I would have preferred its introduction on Macs this year.

The E7 is now available, with additional models set to launch in the coming months. They can be purchased from the Ubiquiti store.
