Apple is currently focused on maximizing revenue from its AppleCare+ warranties. Alongside the discontinuation of most upfront payment plans, Apple is also raising the prices for AppleCare+ subscriptions applicable to all iPhones.
Effective immediately, purchasing AppleCare+ with the conventional upfront payment method is now exclusively available when buying the device online from Apple.
For products acquired at Apple retail locations, this option is no longer available. Upfront payment plans can no longer be purchased directly from the device itself.
In addition, Apple has raised the monthly subscription fee for AppleCare+ across all iPhone models.
According to MacRumors, AppleCare+ now costs an additional 50¢ per month for iPhones in the United States.
This price hike impacts both the standard and Theft and Loss plans, although there are currently no changes to plans for other devices.
In the context of Apple’s pricing strategy, this increase is approximately half the monthly fee for 50GB of iCloud storage, which is priced at 99¢. Apple appreciates your extra 50¢, which allows them to sustain their operations for another year.
