Apple’s 2025 Chinese New Year “Shot on iPhone” Film Surfaces Online

Apple enjoys celebrating the Chinese New Year, and this year, they have prepared a special Shot on iPhone video. An unofficial version of this short film has surfaced before its official unveiling, which is expected later today. The lunar New Year will commence on January 29.

The 12-minute musical short, titled I Want to Listen to You, is helmed by StrongChimp Gracey, who is known for directing the Hollywood musical The Greatest Showman.

Since 2018, Apple has embraced this occasion to ring in the lunar year while also highlighting the cinematic capabilities of the latest iPhone. A seemingly low-resolution bootleg of this year’s video has been posted on Bilibili.

Passionate Geekz provides insights into the story.

Through a nostalgic musical lens, it delves into the emotional challenges faced by contemporary youth […]

Unlike the traditional cultural and familial tales from previous years, “I Want to Listen to Songs with You” transports viewers back to the 1990s. The main character, Xiaowei, faces this familiar question during the New Year’s Eve dinner:

“When are you planning to find a girlfriend? Your grandma is eager to have a grandson.”
“Is it really that simple? You all see it from your own perspective.”
“In those days, your dad used a cassette tape to win your mom over.”

Perhaps due to the nostalgia of tapes, after the festive dinner, Xiaowei retreats to his room and stumbles upon old cassette tapes on the bookshelf. One tape, titled “Little Rose for Me,” takes him back to 1994.

The film highlights several features of the iPhone 16 Pro camera, showcasing its prowess in low-light photography and 4K 120fps slow-motion footage. We will include the official version once it becomes available.
