Apple Intelligence was introduced recently, and significant enhancements are anticipated in iOS 18.4 and beyond. A recent leaked memo has provided insight into Apple’s leading priorities for its AI initiatives this year.
Revamping Siri and Enhancing AI Models as Primary Goals
Earlier today, Mark Gurman reported that Apple is reallocating a key executive—Kim Vorrath—into its AI sector, assigning her the task of “enhancing artificial intelligence and Siri.”
This revelation originated from a leaked memo by Apple’s AI chief, John Giannandrea. Another noteworthy detail from the memo highlights Apple’s main internal objectives for AI in the current year.
Gurman shared insights at Bloomberg:
This year, the artificial intelligence team is dedicated to overhauling Siri’s foundational infrastructure and refining the company’s proprietary AI models, as stated by Giannandrea in the memo.
Apple’s AI focus for 2025 appears to be:
- Revamping the core technologies behind Siri, and
- Enhancing current AI models.
While this may not be groundbreaking, it reflects Apple’s characteristic approach of gradual improvement and refinement.
Internal Emphasis Corresponds with Present Apple Intelligence Limitations
Previously, Gurman has indicated that Siri is undergoing a significant transformation behind the scenes to evolve into ‘LLM Siri,’ which is expected to launch in spring 2026—possibly with iOS 19.4.
This initiative aligns perfectly with what Giannandrea describes as Apple’s primary objective for the year.
The second focal point is also logical.
Enhancements to the company’s AI models are crucial given the recent challenges surrounding notification summaries.
Although these summaries can be very useful when functioning correctly, they frequently contain errors. Consequently, Apple is temporarily deactivating them in iOS 18.3 for certain app categories, presumably until the underlying AI model is improved.
