As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s upcoming smart home hub, often referred to as the ‘Apple command center’ or merely the ‘HomePod’, may experience a slight delay in its anticipated launch.
Apple has been developing this new smart home device for quite some time, with expectations pointing towards a spring launch, particularly in March. Here’s a brief overview of the features we anticipate:
- 6-inch square display featuring a thick bezel
- Camera positioned at the top
- Rechargeable internal battery
- A brand new operating system: homeOS
- Strong emphasis on video functionalities like FaceTime
- Compatibility with various Apple applications
- Dashboard inspired by StandBy
- Simple control capabilities for your smart home
- Integration of Apple Intelligence support
Despite the flurry of rumors over the past months, it seemed like Apple was on the brink of finally launching this device. However, due to delays related to Apple Intelligence, it might take a bit longer to officially reach consumers, as Gurman explains:
Apple had been targeting a March launch for the home hub, but it may take longer for it to become available to the public. The device’s upcoming operating system — codenamed Pebble — is closely linked to the App Intents features set to launch with iOS 18.4 and iOS 19, which could result in a later hardware release.
Even with the launch being pushed back, it appears we can still expect an unveiling in the coming months. Although the delay is regrettable, it’s understandable given the product’s significant dependence on Apple Intelligence.
Gurman also reiterated that Apple is preparing to introduce ‘LLM Siri’, a more conversational AI assistant, in iOS 19.4, anticipated to debut in spring 2026. Additionally, Apple is gearing up to release its own range of smart home accessories, including a Face ID-equipped doorbell and a more private security camera.
