Many fans appreciated the iPhone mini, but it wasn’t enough for Apple to continue its production—the company has no plans for a new ‘mini’ model. However, Apple is preparing a surprise alternative for enthusiasts of compact iPhones: the upcoming iPhone Fold.
The outer display of the iPhone Fold mimics a new iPhone mini

The anticipated iPhone Fold, which I refer to as the iPhone Fold, has garnered significant attention due to its inner display resembling the iPad mini.
However, the outer display hasn’t received as much focus.
According to reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the outer display of the iPhone Fold is expected to be similar in size to another miniature device: the iPhone mini.
- iPhone Fold’s outer display: 5.5 inches
- iPhone mini’s display: 5.4 inches
It’s quite comparable, right?
Next year’s high-end foldable will feature a display very close in size to what we might expect from a new iPhone mini.
Unlike all other iPhone models, which start at 6.1 inches and increase from there, the iPhone Fold will have a more compact, one-handed-friendly 5.5-inch screen.
Welcome back to smaller iPhones.
The foldable iPhone will offer two ‘mini’ experiences in one device

If the inaugural iPhone Fold is successful, I have no doubt Apple will release larger models in the future. Consumers are drawn to large phones.
However, for this initial version, devotees of compact sizes will enjoy two advantages within one device.
- The outer display will offer a screen experience akin to the iPhone mini.
- The inner display will evoke the feel of an iPad mini.
Of course, Apple recognizes that the foldable will appeal to a wider audience than just enthusiasts of mini devices.
For those using an iPhone Pro Max (currently featuring a 6.9-inch screen), the iPhone Fold may feel a bit small on the outside.
But when unfolded, the inner display will represent a significant upgrade at 7.8 inches.
In theory, the iPhone Fold could cater to a diverse range of user preferences and requirements.
- If you miss the iPhone mini, the small display will return with the iPhone Fold.
- If you are a fan of the iPhone Pro Max, an even larger display will be available.
- If you need iPad mini-like capabilities from your pocket phone, the iPhone Fold has got you covered.
The primary downside?
Apple’s foldable is projected to start at around $2,000, a substantial increase over previous iPhone mini pricing, as well as current Pro Max costs.
Despite the price, both small and large iPhone enthusiasts may find what they’ve been longing for in the iPhone Fold.
