As the holiday season approaches, Apple and other companies usually refrain from announcing new products. However, we are still anticipating a major update as indicated on Apple’s website: the launch of the first next-generation CarPlay models.
Apple’s Year-End CarPlay Announcement Trend
It has now been a year since Apple committed to revealing the first next-generation CarPlay vehicles before the end of 2023. The initial announcements came from Porsche and Aston Martin.
Currently, there is another promise related to CarPlay that remains unfulfilled. For a considerable time, Apple’s website has claimed that the first next-gen CarPlay models would “arrive in 2024.”
As we near the year’s end, updates regarding this expectation are still pending.
Presumably, either Porsche, Aston Martin, or another automaker is poised to make an announcement in conjunction with Apple before 2024 concludes.
Alternatively, it’s also possible that the launch of next-gen CarPlay has faced delays, and Apple’s website has not yet been updated accordingly.
2024 Deadline Approaches, Yet There’s Still Time
I continually check Apple’s CarPlay page, hopeful that the banner saying “First models arrive in 2024” will change to “2025” or “coming soon.”
However, there has been no official alteration thus far.
Yet, Apple still has time. Last year’s next-generation CarPlay announcement occurred on December 20. Perhaps the company intends to keep us in suspense a bit longer this year.
Maybe I’m being overly optimistic, but the absence of updates might suggest a forthcoming announcement.
Expectations for the Next Generation of CarPlay
To recap, here’s what the next-generation CarPlay will offer, according to Apple:
This new generation of CarPlay delivers the ultimate iPhone experience in the car. It interfaces with all of the driver’s screens, including the instrument cluster. This guarantees a cohesive design experience that perfectly blends your vehicle and your iPhone—featuring unique designs for each automaker that embody the character and brand of your car. Functions like radio and temperature controls can be managed directly through CarPlay, and personalization options, such as widgets and curated gauge cluster designs, make the experience individual to the driver.

We hope there will be more updates regarding CarPlay soon—and that these updates will be positive.
