On Tuesday, Apple rolled out a discreet firmware update for the Beats Solo Buds, the budget-friendly earbuds launched earlier this year under the Beats label. Continue reading for details about the update and instructions on how to apply it to the earbuds.
Firmware Update for Beats Solo Buds by Apple
The newly released firmware for the Beats Solo Buds carries the build number 3A130, marking the first update since the earbuds’ debut. The original firmware that came with the earbuds was also 3A130.
Apple typically does not provide detailed release notes for firmware updates like this, leaving us uncertain if any new features have been introduced. In August, the company did release an update for the Beats Studio Pro headphones, which included support for multi-user audio sharing.
Updating the firmware on Beats headphones is rather convoluted, much like updating AirPods. There is no manual installation option available through iOS devices; instead, updates are automatically applied when the earbuds are nearby an internet-connected iPhone or iPad. Android users, however, can utilize the official Beats app for a straightforward firmware installation process.
The Beats Solo Buds present a more affordable option compared to other wireless earbuds like the entry-level AirPods. Even though they lack some advanced features such as Active Noise Cancellation, ear detection for automatic play/pause, and Transparency Mode, they still provide 18 hours of battery life along with compatibility for both iOS and Android systems.
While Apple retails the Beats Solo Buds at $79, you can often find them on Amazon for just $49.
