During CES 2025, Belkin launched its new SoundForm Isolate headphones. These mark Belkin’s first wireless headphones featuring active noise cancellation, and they are priced at a very affordable $60 – making them exceptional over-ear headphones.
Hardware Impressions
Despite their low cost, the SoundForm Isolates are surprisingly well-constructed. They don’t feel flimsy or cheap. While they are made from plastic, that’s standard for most over-ear headphones that aren’t the AirPods Max. The ear cushions are comfortable, and I have no concerns about their durability.
These headphones also have a folding design, making them easy to pack away in a backpack or similar. Additionally, the earcups can rotate to help you find a more comfortable fit.
The package includes a USB-C charging cable and a 3.5mm aux cable, though a carrying case is not provided. Given the price point, this is understandable, but it’s worth noting. The included aux cable adds a major convenience for users, offering extra connectivity options beyond Bluetooth.
Software Features
On the left earcup, you’ll find a button that switches between three modes: hear-through on, noise cancelling off, and noise cancelling on. While the names could be more descriptive, these essentially function as transparency mode, off mode, and noise cancellation mode.
Even with three different modes, they are quite similar in effect. Noise cancellation does decrease background noise (particularly when you’re outside), but over-ear designs naturally provide a good amount of passive noise attenuation just by covering your ears. While the noise cancellation is effective, it’s not going to blow your mind – for example, it struggles with speech clarity, but again, you’re only spending $60.
The hear-through mode works as expected, allowing some external sounds to be heard while wearing the headphones. It’s not extraordinary, but it performs adequately for its purpose.
One standout function is the isolate mode. By pressing both the volume up and down buttons simultaneously (on the right earcup), you activate this mode, which plays soothing ocean sounds while you wear the headphones. While it might not specifically aid my focus, some users might find it beneficial. Many people enjoy falling asleep to ocean sounds, so it serves a purpose.
Audio
The audio quality of Belkin’s SoundForm Isolates is satisfactory. I had modest expectations for a $60 product, and they certainly met those expectations without any disappointments. I’m not an audiophile, so I won’t delve deep into technicalities, but be mindful not to expect outstanding sound performance. They do provide a decent bass response, which may appeal to some users.
They can be loud when needed, but not so loud that they risk hearing damage. Additionally, you can turn them down to the lowest volume setting and still hear them clearly, which is an advantage not all headphones offer.
The microphones are quite decent, suitable for quick phone calls without issues.
DMN’s Take
While these headphones may not offer anything groundbreaking, they certainly aren’t subpar. They’re a practical purchase, particularly for younger users who may not be ready for more expensive equipment. As a set of wireless headphones, the SoundForm Isolates are impressive for the $60 price point. Though they may not appeal to everyone, they are ideal for budget-conscious individuals seeking over-ear wireless headphones.
You can find the Belkin SoundForm Isolate on Amazon priced at $59.99. They are available in two colors: black and sand, boasting an impressive 60-hour battery life.
