Bloomberg: Apple Working on New ‘LLM Siri’ for iOS 19 and macOS 16

As Apple continues to introduce new features under its Apple Intelligence umbrella with iOS 18, the company is also developing unannounced enhancements for the upcoming iOS 19. Among these upgrades is a more sophisticated version of Siri, now driven by advanced large language models (LLMs). This information was shared in a recent report from Bloomberg.

Introducing ‘New Siri’ with iOS 19

According to Mark Gurman, this updated version is informally dubbed “LLM Siri” within Apple. The enhanced assistant is currently undergoing tests through a standalone application, which will ultimately replace the existing Siri interface upon its release.

The report indicates that while Apple plans to announce LLM Siri alongside iOS 19 and macOS 16 next year, the actual rollout will not occur until spring 2026.

The redesigned Siri will utilize new AI models from Apple to interact in a more human-like manner and handle tasks similarly to ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. Additionally, it will leverage App Intents for improved control over third-party applications and access features from Apple Intelligence, such as text writing and summarization capabilities.

In iOS 18.1, Apple introduced a refreshed Siri design, enhancing its product knowledge and improving its ability to process multiple commands, along with a new Type to Siri functionality and other minor updates. The forthcoming iOS 18.2 is set to integrate ChatGPT as part of its enhancements, with beta testing currently underway and a public release expected in December.

Starting with iOS 18.3 and later iterations next year, Siri will gain the capability to execute app commands and interpret personal context for answering inquiries.

Apple aims to incorporate ChatGPT-like functionalities internally with this new LLM Siri launch in iOS 19 while emphasizing the privacy advantages of its platform compared to competitors.

iOS 19 and macOS 16 are anticipated to be unveiled at WWDC 2025 in June.
