The UK mobile provider O2 has introduced Daisy, an AI grandmother specifically created to tie up phone scammers and prolong their calls as much as possible.
Individuals can report scam calls or messages by sending their number to 7722, which will be verified and subsequently included in the list of flagged targets …
Keeping a scammer engaged for a longer duration reduces their opportunities to contact innocent victims.
The concept of automating this process with a bot gained traction with Lenny, a voice chatbot that utilizes one of sixteen pre-recorded responses mimicking a slow and technically challenged elderly person. Lenny has also served to combat unsolicited telemarketing calls.
Even with its limited responses, Lenny has managed to keep unwanted callers on the line for over an hour on occasion.
O2 has now debuted its own AI alternative, named Daisy.
O2 has developed the realistic Daisy, an AI ‘Granny’ designed to engage fraudsters on calls in real-time, ensuring they remain occupied and away from genuine customers for as long as possible.
With Daisy demonstrating that you aren’t always talking to who you think, O2 is encouraging users to be cautious, leave ‘scambaiting’ efforts to AI specialists, and report suspicious calls and texts to 7726 at no charge.
