On Tuesday, OpenAI unveiled a new functionality for ChatGPT that transforms the chatbot into a reminder application. This feature, dubbed “Tasks,” enables users to ask ChatGPT to send reminders about their tasks and even set up regular alerts for specific events.
ChatGPT now allows users to set reminders with ‘Tasks’
OpenAI characterizes the Tasks feature as a “significant advancement toward establishing ChatGPT as a supportive AI companion capable of taking on tasks for you.”
With this feature, ChatGPT can notify you of reminders at appropriate times, whether they are one-time events or recurring tasks. Once this feature is activated, you simply need to tell ChatGPT what you want and when, and it will manage the task for you. There will also be a special section for task management in the profile menu within ChatGPT. Additionally, the chatbot will suggest tasks based on your previous conversations.
For instance, users might instruct ChatGPT to remind them of their passport expiration in 6 months. The functionality extends to more intricate requests, such as obtaining a daily weather report every morning or generating a to-do list every Friday. ChatGPT will deliver push notifications through its website or app. Moreover, if permitted, it will automatically create tasks based on your inputs.
The new Tasks feature is currently rolling out as a “beta” to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers, and it will be accessible across all platforms through the new “4o with scheduled tasks” framework. During the beta phase, users are limited to 10 active tasks at any given time, with push notifications supported via the ChatGPT macOS application.
“At this stage, we intend to utilize this beta period to explore how users interact with tasks and refine the feature before it becomes available to all ChatGPT users,” OpenAI shared with DMN.
Last December, OpenAI made ChatGPT Search accessible to all users for free. This feature effectively transitions ChatGPT into a search engine that can locate answers online in real-time. Additionally, the macOS app received updates to integrate with Apple Notes and other third-party applications.
The ChatGPT app is available for free on the iOS App Store, while the macOS version can be downloaded from OpenAI’s official website.
