As highlighted in our previous report, OpenAI has officially introduced SearchGPT, a search engine that leverages artificial intelligence to aggregate and present optimal results from the internet. The latest update for ChatGPT on iOS makes utilizing SearchGPT even more convenient.
Integration of SearchGPT in the ChatGPT App’s Apple Shortcuts
The new version of the ChatGPT app for iPhone and iPad incorporates an Apple Shortcuts feature, enabling users to create shortcuts for launching SearchGPT. With this shortcut, you can instantly start a new conversation in the ChatGPT app with SearchGPT activated. Notably, these shortcuts can be placed on the Home Screen or initiated through Siri.
While many users have found ChatGPT to function as a search engine, OpenAI has implemented upgrades that deliver the features commonly expected from search services like Google and Bing. Here’s OpenAI’s perspective on the enhancements:
ChatGPT now offers a more effective web search capability. Users can receive quick, real-time answers with links to pertinent web resources, a process that previously required navigating to a traditional search engine. This combines the advantages of a natural language interface with immediate access to sports scores, news, stock quotes, and more.
The choice to search the web can be made automatically based on inquiries, or users can opt to perform a search manually by selecting the web search icon.
OpenAI has formed partnerships with news and data organizations to provide up-to-date information, presented through new, specialized formats for various content types.
With the upcoming release of iOS 18.2 scheduled for December, users on iPhone and iPad will see ChatGPT integrated into Siri. This enhancement will allow users to engage with the OpenAI chatbot directly through the Siri interface, also extending to Writing Tools. Subscribers to the paid version of ChatGPT can enjoy additional features by signing into their accounts via the iOS Settings app.
The new short cut is included in the latest ChatGPT app version, available for download on the App Store. Currently, SearchGPT is exclusively accessible to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers.
