ChatGPT Search Now Accessible to All at No Cost

In October, OpenAI introduced its own search engine within ChatGPT. Initially, this feature was exclusive to ChatGPT Plus users, but it is now being made accessible to all users, including those on the free plan.

As confirmed by OpenAI on Monday, ChatGPT Search is now accessible to any user who is logged in, effective immediately. Users can simply open ChatGPT on the web or through the app and click the search button. Currently, ChatGPT’s knowledge is based on data available up to June 2024, when the GPT-4o model database was last updated. However, ChatGPT Search can retrieve new information from the web in real time.

Upon conducting a search or posing a question, ChatGPT Search delivers comprehensive answers sourced from multiple references, all of which are linked in the response. Additionally, search results may feature images and videos. The overall experience mirrors that of using OpenAI’s chatbot, with the added benefit of real-time data collection and response generation.

OpenAI explains it as follows:

ChatGPT can now effectively search the web, providing quick, timely answers with links to relevant sources—something that previously required using a search engine. This seamlessly merges the advantages of a natural language interface with the latest information on sports scores, news, stock quotes, and more.

ChatGPT may decide to search the web based on your queries, or you can opt to conduct a search manually by clicking the web search icon.

Earlier this month, OpenAI enhanced ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode with video support, allowing users to engage in a natural conversation with the chatbot through video chat, enabling it to answer questions regarding the content of the video. Furthermore, with the release of iOS 18.2 last week, iPhone and iPad users can now interact with ChatGPT directly through Siri.

The ChatGPT app is available for free on the App Store and requires a device running iOS 16.4 or later. Be sure to have the latest version installed to access new features. On the web, users can explore ChatGPT Search at chatgpt.com/search.
