Clubhouse has recently hired a software developer who specializes in Android. As such, the company has given an expected period in which their Android version is to arrive. Presently, the social audio platform is exclusively available for iOS.
Paul Davison, the co-founder of Clubhouse, said on Sunday that they were putting in extra effort to get to Android as soon as possible. However, he continued that a few months are left till that happens. As such, reports speculate that the Android version will be here by late spring or early summer of this year.
Previously, Clubhouse had said at the beginning of the year that the Android version is in the plans, but had not specified any dates. Since then, the company’s statements have been mostly about the significance of tapping into the Android base as well as increasing the app’s accessibility. Davison’s statement at the weekly Townhouse event is the first of its kind.
The Challenges Facing Clubhouse
Meanwhile, Twitter Spaces, the direct rival to Clubhouse, has been filling in the gap for Android users. They have launched support at a rapid rate to the platform. Twitter Spaces has already launched for Android, this month. Additionally, Twitter Spaces is set to do a full public release as early as April. The time frame would prove a major challenge for Clubhouse to catch up.
Davison, however, pointed out that Clubhouse’s slow pace is significant in maintaining the integrity of the community. He explained that as more users are added, discovering the feeds can get more confusing and alienating. As such, there are several changes planned for the Activity feed in the app. The company holds the belief that personalizing the app is an important step in succeeding among a much larger user base.
As such, the “invite-only” status is soon going to be dropped as well. Davison added that Clubhouse has every intention of being accessible to anyone especially since many established creators are not present on the platform.
