This week, Chrome 132 began its rollout, marking Google’s first significant browser update for 2025. A notable feature finally gaining official status is the customization option for the toolbar on desktop.
To customize the Chrome toolbar on Mac, Windows, and Linux, open the New Tab Page and click on “Customize Chrome” located in the bottom-right corner. Within the Appearance section, you’ll find “Toolbar” added as a new feature.
This functionality allows you to select which buttons appear to the left and right of the address bar, with options including:
- Navigation: Home, Forward, New Incognito Window
- Your Chrome: Google Password Manager, Payment Methods, Addresses and More, Bookmarks, Reading List, History, Delete Browsing Data
- Tools and Actions: Print, Search with Google Lens, Translate, Create QR Code, Reading Mode, Copy Link, Send to your devices, Task Manager, and Developer Tools
Google explains that you can drag the icons in the toolbar for rearrangement. Most options will launch in a side panel interface.
The “Send to your devices” feature is particularly useful to have readily accessible, and I personally prefer using the “Search with Google Lens” option from the toolbar rather than the Omnibox. Depending on your screen resolution, this setup is more convenient than navigating through the overflow menu. Please note that the buttons you select will sync across all your desktop browsers.
Google has been enhancing this feature over the past few months, adding additional shortcuts. While users have started receiving the ability to customize the toolbar in recent weeks, Google is now officially confirming its broader availability with the Chrome 132 What’s new page.
To update Chrome, click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, then open Settings at the bottom of the menu. In the left sidebar, navigate to About Chrome.
