Streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Apple TV+ currently support the HDR10+ standard. In the near future, Disney+ will also be included among these platforms that deliver content in this advanced high dynamic range format.
HDR10+ Video Launching on Disney+
This exciting update was shared at CES 2025 by Marc Finer from Communication Research Inc., representing the HDR10+ certification group. According to Finer, Disney+ will soon offer HDR10+ content, enabling owners of compatible devices to enjoy an enhanced dynamic range while watching their favorite films and shows.
If you’re not familiar with it, HDR10+ is a high dynamic range video technology that stands as a competitor to Dolby Vision. Both formats utilize HDR metadata for each video frame, allowing for real-time adjustments to display settings that enhance contrast and brightness for a richer viewing experience.
“HDR10+ dynamic metadata offers several advantages, such as enhanced brightness and contrast, strong standardization, simplified implementation, global certification, and no licensing fees,” according to MediaPlayNews. This technology was developed collaboratively by Samsung and Panasonic and is now supported by over 13,000 compatible devices, including the latest Apple TV 4K models.
While this announcement is promising, specific details regarding the release of the first HDR10+ content on Disney+ are yet to be revealed. Remember, you will need HDR10+-compatible devices to make the most of this advanced technology.
