Nearly a year ago, Disney+ began to incorporate Hulu content into its platform. Today, it is taking a step further by adding ESPN through a new tile that will start showing up in the Disney+ app. In an added benefit, subscribers who do not have the bundle will still receive some Hulu and ESPN content at no additional cost.
ESPN now part of the Disney+ app
Disney+ continues evolving into a comprehensive app platform. Originally a home solely for Disney content, it is now also a destination for Hulu—and starting today, ESPN as well.
For some time now, subscribers have had the option to bundle Disney’s three primary streaming services:
With this update, ESPN+ subscribers can now enjoy all their sports entertainment directly through the Disney+ app, featuring ‘over 30,000 live sports events every year’ along with original series like Peyton’s Places.
Looking ahead, when Disney launches its anticipated standalone ESPN service next year, even more options will be available. Essentially, you will experience a cable-like ESPN environment right within the Disney+ app. For now, ESPN+ content is already at your fingertips.
If you are a standalone Disney+ subscriber, today brings some exciting news as well.
Disney+ subscribers now receive select Hulu and ESPN content at no cost
To access all content offered through the ESPN and Hulu tiles on the Disney+ app, bundling the three services is necessary.
However, standalone Disney+ subscribers will also enjoy a great perk.
The Hulu and ESPN tiles will now be accessible to all Disney+ subscribers, independent of a bundle. Disney is also providing select content for free within these tiles for anyone with an active Disney+ subscription.
Here are the specifics:
Standalone Disney+ subscribers will gain access to a curated selection of live sports events, studio programs, and ESPN Films from ESPN+, along with a specific collection of TV shows and movies from Hulu. Noteworthy events from ESPN+ in the coming weeks include “The Simpsons Funday Football” animated Monday Night Football event, a Christmas Day lineup of five NBA games, and the “Dunk The Halls” animated NBA special, plus select 30 For 30 documentaries and Day 1 coverage of the Australian Open. From Hulu, standalone subscribers can enjoy groundbreaking content at launch, including Shōgun, Will Trent, Solar Opposites, Reservation Dogs, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, among others.
This additional content for standalone Disney+ subscribers is a generous bonus, which should help Disney encourage more viewers to convert to the bundle in the future.
