Rivian has thus far resisted adopting CarPlay, choosing instead to develop its own infotainment system that tightly integrates with the R1S and R1T models. However, a new aftermarket accessory set to debut this month asserts it can introduce CarPlay—and an extensive range of additional apps—into Rivian vehicles through a user-friendly installation process that requires just 25 minutes.
As shared by Chris Hilbert on social media, the “EV Play” is an Android-based gadget that guarantees both wireless and wired CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities for Rivian’s infotainment system.
The EV Play website details that the device offers much more than just CarPlay:
EV Play is an Android-powered hardware device designed to enhance your Rivian infotainment experience. From video streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime, to audio streaming platforms such as Pandora, Soundcloud, and XM; navigation applications including Google Maps and Waze (finally!); to web browsers like Chrome and Firefox. Are you stuck waiting while your vehicle charges? Dive into gaming with titles like Call of Duty or Roblox using actual wireless controllers (game compatibility may vary). All apps are native, not tethered, although tethering is supported as well.
Details on how EV Play manages to incorporate CarPlay, Android Auto, and other applications into Rivian vehicles remain limited. Since Rivian’s native infotainment is compatible with Google Cast, it appears that EV Play could be leveraging that system for its functionality.
The creators of the project announced that development for EV Play commenced last year. Their initial target was to launch in February or March. However, the project’s site now indicates that the device is officially launching this month. While specifics like pricing and the installation procedure are not yet available, interested users can subscribe to the EV Play newsletter for updates.

DMN’s Perspective
As I discussed previously regarding a (now-retired) accessory that introduced CarPlay to GM EVs, the emergence of such products highlights a significant trend in consumer preferences. Users are eager for CarPlay and are ready to pursue various avenues to integrate it into their vehicles.
Tesla also does not offer CarPlay support, yet a vibrant community has emerged with inventive solutions to incorporate it using both hardware and software methods.
Another well-liked option for adding CarPlay to vehicles that lack it is through standalone screens. Numerous portable displays exist that serve as a supplementary screen for CarPlay, complementing your vehicle’s existing infotainment system. These options are surprisingly economical, with prices often starting below $100.
