Apple has a wealth of successful products, but none surpass the iPhone in popularity. This year, Apple is set to unveil five new iPhone models, and here’s a preview of what each has to offer.
iPhone SE 4
This spring, Apple’s budget-friendly iPhone will receive significant enhancements in its first major update since 2022.
The iPhone SE is gearing up to ditch the Home Button in favor of an edge-to-edge OLED display featuring a notch.
The updated SE will inherit several standout features from the flagship iPhone 16, including:
- A18 chip
- 8GB of RAM
- Support for Apple Intelligence
- 48MP primary camera
- USB-C connectivity
Additionally, we anticipate the debut of Apple’s inaugural in-house 5G modem in the iPhone SE 4, making it an enticing budget choice.
iPhone 17 Air
This fall, Apple is set to release four new iPhone 17 models. The annual launch of four new iPhones has become customary, yet this year brings notable changes with one model.
With the discontinuation of the iPhone Plus, the iPhone 17 Air will take its place.
The iPhone 17 Air will emphasize form over function, featuring core specifications similar to the standard iPhone 17, including the A19 chip (not the A19 Pro) and 8GB of RAM (as opposed to the 12GB in the Pro models). However, it will be priced higher due to its sleek, cutting-edge design.
As Apple’s slimmest iPhone ever, the 17 Air boasts a unique display size that finds a middle ground between the two Pro models.
More anticipated Air features include Apple’s proprietary 5G modem and a high-refresh display.
After years of subtle iPhone design updates, the iPhone 17 Air will showcase an exciting new aesthetic that may complicate this year’s iPhone choices.
iPhone 17 Pro
While the iPhone 17 Air may steal the spotlight, Apple’s Pro lineup also shines brightly.
The iPhone 17 Pro retains the same 6.3-inch display as the 16 Pro but introduces its own design modifications. Notably, it will feature a reimagined frame utilizing aluminum instead of titanium, along with a larger and more defined camera bump.
Internally, the iPhone 17 Pro will include:
- A19 Pro chip
- 12GB of RAM, the highest ever in an iPhone
- Qualcomm’s 5G modem
We can expect some impressive rear camera enhancements to accompany the newly designed camera bump, and for the first time in a long while, the front camera is also being upgraded.
Across the entire iPhone 17 range, the front camera will see an upgrade from 12MP to 24MP, enhancing performance.
iPhone 17 Pro Max
As always, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will encompass all the coveted features of the smaller iPhone 17 Pro, along with additional benefits like improved battery life due to its larger size.
This year, the 17 Pro Max will feature a smaller Dynamic Island compared to the other models. While the exact size is still uncertain, we’re particularly intrigued to see if this change leads to Face ID being embedded within the display, thereby allowing for a reduced cutout.
It’s also possible that the Pro Max model will come with some exclusive camera advantages not available in the smaller 17 Pro, but no rumors have surfaced regarding that yet.
iPhone 17
Completing the 2025 lineup is the standard iPhone 17.
Last year’s iPhone 16 set a high bar for base models. We’ll have to wait to see if the iPhone 17 can meet or exceed that benchmark, but here’s a preliminary overview of what to anticipate:
- 24MP front camera
- A19 chip
- 8GB of RAM
- Retains the same 6.1-inch display as the iPhone 16
Additional details on the base model are expected to emerge in the coming months, but it appears that it will face tough competition not only from the Air and Pro models but also from the more affordable iPhone SE 4.
