After launching on Android in January, the Gemini application for iPhone has been updated with a revamped homescreen that now opens the keyboard automatically upon startup.
The “Ask Gemini” input field now spans the full width of the screen, and Google has eliminated the microphone and camera icon pill. The right side now features only buttons for voice input and Gemini Live.
In addition, the ‘plus’ menu provides access to the Camera, Gallery, and Files. A design change has also removed the separator above the field for a sleeker, minimalist appearance.
Old vs. new

The updated text box will transition into a rounded rectangle shape once a prompt is entered. Functionally, the keyboard will now automatically appear when you open Gemini, allowing you to start typing right away.
This new homescreen layout for iPhone users is being rolled out with version 1.2025.0670001 of the Gemini application. If you haven’t seen these updates after installing, try closing the app from multitasking and then relaunch it. The release notes feature:
- Ability to reference previous chats for enhanced assistance with Gemini Advanced
- Improved display of sources and related content
- More comprehensive responses related to locations on Google Maps
