The first month of 2025 is rapidly coming to a close, inching us closer to Apple’s initial product unveilings of the year—and there are several exciting launches on the horizon. Let’s explore five new products anticipated to be released in the upcoming months.
M4 MacBook Air
Apple’s best-selling Mac is set for its next upgrade. Here is what to look forward to with the new MacBook Air:
- M4 chip
- 16GB of RAM as standard
- Nano-texture display option available
- 12MP Center Stage camera
- Ability to support two external displays while the lid is open
- Improved battery life potentially due to the M4 chip
- Retaining the same design in both 13-inch and 15-inch variants
In short, this should be a worthwhile update for the MacBook Air. Timing-wise, indications suggest a launch in February or early March, similar to the release window of the M3 MacBook Air in early 2024.
iPhone SE 4
The forthcoming iPhone is likely the model that most shoppers should consider. Introducing the new iPhone SE 4, expected to be launched in March.
The new iPhone SE will boast:
- a design reminiscent of the iPhone 14, featuring an OLED display without a Home Button
- Face ID and a notch
- the A18 chip introduced in the iPhone 16
- Support for Apple Intelligence, which is exclusive to the 16 and 15 Pro variants
- 8GB of RAM
- a 48MP primary camera, likely akin to that of the iPhone 16
- USB-C connection
- and the very first Apple-designed 5G modem
All this will come at an attractive, budget-friendly price—likely below $499.
‘HomePad’ Smart Display
The product that has me the most excited is the upcoming ‘HomePad’ smart display from Apple.
Mark Gurman discussed this product extensively in a recent piece for Bloomberg, which is expected to inject new life into Apple’s Home product range. According to Gurman, anticipated features will include:
- An emphasis on Siri, communication, and smart home control
- Support for Safari, Music, Notes, and various other Apple applications, but no App Store integration
- The device will have a touchscreen but will largely be controlled by voice via Apple Intelligence’s new App Intents
- A new operating system that merges watchOS and iOS StandBy mode; adaptive UI that changes based on user proximity
- Roughly the size of two iPhones side by side, featuring around a 6-inch display
- Built-in speakers, FaceTime camera, and battery
- Apple is working on wall mounts and a speaker base suitable for desks, tables, kitchens, and nightstands
- A strong focus on security, alongside a video/audio intercom function that interacts with other smart home devices
- A customizable Home Screen featuring traditional Apple widgets and smart controls
- Integration with video doorbells and security cameras, equipped with alert capabilities
I eagerly await Apple’s renewed focus on home products. Gurman initially projected a March launch for the HomePad, but adjusted expectations to indicate a potential slight delay.
iPad, 11th Generation
After a quiet year for the iPad in 2023, Apple was originally slated to refresh its complete iPad lineup in 2024. While new iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini models have been introduced, the standard iPad remained unchanged.
However, the iPad will soon receive an update in the form of the 11th generation. Details remain sparse, but we can expect a faster A-series chip, likely featuring 8GB of RAM that supports Apple Intelligence. There are whispers of a new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networking chip as well.
Essentially, it appears to be a routine upgrade for Apple’s most economical iPad.
M3 iPad Air
The base iPad won’t be the only tablet to arrive soon.
Even though Apple just upgraded the iPad Air in May with the M2 chip, rumors suggest that an M3 boost is on the way early this year.
Details surrounding the M3 iPad Air remain scarce, but it is expected to work with some new keyboard accessories from Apple. Otherwise, it appears to be a straightforward spec enhancement for the currently available 11-inch and 13-inch models.
Wildcard: Apple Watch SE 3
Lastly, there’s a potential sixth product on the horizon: an Apple Watch SE 3.
The previous Apple Watch SE was launched in 2022, and prior to Apple’s September 2024 event, there were rumors hinting at a launch for the SE 3—but it ultimately didn’t happen.
Traditionally, new Apple Watch SE models have released in September, but there are two factors suggesting the new SE might debut this spring instead:
- If the device was targeted for a September 2024 launch but missed it, Apple likely wouldn’t want to wait an entire additional year.
- A new Apple Watch SE release could align nicely with the iPhone SE 4 launch.
