Due to the pandemic, ordering takeout from restaurants has become a more justified guilty pleasure. As such, Google Assistant can now help users with the online process. It would help immensely because it provides a boost to local businesses as well as being safer.
How Would The Latest Google Assistant Help?
Google is attempting to make online delivery easier and faster through the update to Google Assistant. The voice assistant now has the ability to automatically fill in the user’s contact information as well as payment details on Android mobiles after using Google Search to find and choose a restaurant.
The first step to using the latest feature is searching for the desired restaurant where you would like to place your order in the default Google app. After that, there should be a button to “order online” on the information card of the restaurant. Once you are done selecting your order, Google Assistant can be told to finish up the order using the saved payment and contact information that is there in Chrome Autofill and Google Play. After a final confirmation by Google Assistant, the order will be placed.
However, there are major limitations in the latest feature for now. Google has stated that Assistant can only complete orders for pickup. Deliveries are expected to arrive soon in the future. It also works exclusively with the restaurants that have partnered with Google for ordering online. Lastly, the feature can only be used on the Android mobile’s Google App.
The company claims that the latest trick is powered by Duplex which might be a surprise. Google Duplex was originally introduced for reserving and making appointments through an automated call. Later, it became a tool for filling up forms for car rentals online and purchasing movie tickets. Currently, Duplex’s capabilities have expanded further with the voice aspect becoming less central.
