Gurman: Apple Developing New M5 iPad Pro with Production Set to Begin Later This Year

The latest edition of the Power On newsletter indicates that Apple is currently in the “final testing” stages for the upcoming M5 iPad Pro. This new device is expected to be among the first to utilize Apple’s cutting-edge M5 silicon.

It seems the M5 iPad Pro will primarily offer a performance upgrade with the introduction of the new M5 chip. The iPad Pro underwent a redesign last year, featuring an OLED display, a slimmer profile, and a newly positioned front-facing camera for landscape use. According to Gurman, the new M5 iPad Pro carries the codenames J817, J818, J820, and J821.

Currently, the M5 iPad Pro is in the “final testing” phase and is “scheduled for production in the latter half of this year.”

In addition, Apple is also developing an M6 iPad Pro that will include its proprietary modems, though this model won’t be available until 2027. Furthermore, new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models featuring the M5 chip are in the works, although these won’t undergo any redesigns. Gurman also reiterated that a major overhaul for the MacBook Pro is set for 2026.
