Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter indicates that Apple does not intend to refresh the Vision Pro in 2025. While he speculates that a headset could be announced prior to a potential launch next year, the prevailing expectation is for new Vision Pro hardware to debut in 2026 instead.
Conversely, Gurman points out that Apple’s more immediate priority is to develop a lower-cost headset, with the company reportedly increasing its focus on this project.
Previous reports from analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that the Apple Vision Pro 2 was expected to start production in the latter half of 2025. This new model was anticipated to feature the M5 chip and support for Apple Intelligence, albeit with few other hardware modifications rumored. Kuo also noted that the more affordable headset is now postponed until at least 2027.
In contrast, Gurman emphasizes the urgency of producing the budget-friendly headset. While it won’t be released in 2025, there is hope that it will arrive sooner:
Apple’s pressing aim is to launch a more affordable version of the headset, and they are intensifying development on this product. Stay tuned for additional updates. In addition to this device, codenamed N107, Apple is actively pursuing other concepts, including a potential version of Meta Platforms Inc.’s Ray-Ban smart glasses and an AirPods-style vision device equipped with cameras.
While these devices are all expected to be released beyond 2025, this year is likely to represent a pivotal moment toward that ultimate vision.
Gurman also shares that Apple continues to develop other products incorporating wearable cameras, such as an Apple variant of the Meta Ray-Ban glasses and AirPods featuring cameras. No concrete timeline is provided for these products, except that they are likely to come after this year.
