Insta360 Introduces Innovative ‘AI Tracker’ for Flow 2 Pro Gimbal

Earlier this year, Insta360 unveiled the Flow 2 Pro, their latest smartphone gimbal, which I reviewed on DMN. Now, the company has launched a new accessory for Flow 2 Pro users known as the “AI Tracker.” This module contains a built-in camera sensor designed to enhance tracking capabilities for both people and objects.

Introducing the Insta360 Flow 2 Pro AI Tracker

Typically, gimbals provide subject tracking via their dedicated applications. For the Insta360 Flow 2 Pro, iPhone users can take advantage of Apple’s DockKit API support, enabling the device’s sensors and machine learning to effectively track and manage the gimbal’s movements.

To provide advanced AI-driven tracking independently of external software, Insta360 has developed the AI Tracker.

According to Insta360, the AI Tracker ensures that subjects remain “perfectly framed” even in challenging environments. It effectively manages obstructions, such as individuals blocking the view, and is designed to track not just humans but also animals. The accessory can even recognize a palm gesture to initiate tracking from a distance.

While the AI Tracker is mainly tailored for Android users (as DockKit support is limited to iOS), iPhone users can also reap its benefits. Beyond the tracking sensor, the AI Tracker also doubles as an LED flash, offering various settings for brightness and color temperature.

Insta360 launches new 'AI Tracker' accessory for Flow 2 Pro gimbal

This concept may seem familiar, as DJI’s latest gimbal, reviewed here, also features a similar accessory named the Multifunctional Module. It’s fascinating to see companies developing such accessories to enhance user experiences without requiring a specialized application.

The Insta360 AI Tracker for Flow 2 Pro is now available at a price of $39.99. Additionally, customers can purchase the Insta360 gimbal packaged with this new accessory for $179.99.
