On Thursday, Meta revealed an exciting new feature for Instagram users, particularly those who enjoy watching Reels—Instagram’s answer to short-form video content, rivaling TikTok. This update introduces the capability to fast-forward through Reels videos.
Fast Forward Instagram Reels Now Available
In recent years, both TikTok and Instagram Reels have significantly extended the maximum duration of videos. What used to be a 15-second limit has transformed into videos lasting several minutes, prompting users to seek options to skip or fast-forward.
While TikTok has long included a fast-forward feature, Instagram is now following suit with Reels. Users who have received the latest update can enjoy videos at double speed by tapping and holding either edge of the screen during playback (as reported by TechCrunch).
This update is likely to be welcomed by many users; however, it raises concerns among some creators about the impact of the short video format on viewer attention for longer content.
In another development, Instagram is also working on a new mobile video editing application named Edits. Although originally slated for launch this month, Meta has once again postponed its release. This new app aims to compete with CapCut (owned by TikTok), offering features for filming and editing videos directly from smartphones.
