Apple’s Messages app boasts a variety of useful features, including the latest enhancements from iOS 18 and Genmoji. However, it’s lacking in one crucial area: effective tools for keeping track of unanswered messages. The newly developed Mac app, RPLY, aims to address this issue using artificial intelligence.
RPLY utilizes AI to overcome your iMessage forgetfulness
RPLY is a new macOS application that offers two primary functions:
- It scans your iMessages and organizes the unanswered ones into a dedicated hub.
- It then generates AI-crafted responses for those messages, allowing you to reply with a single click.
In essence, it’s a straightforward utility that satisfies a significant need for many Messages users.
Currently, Apple does not make it particularly easy to remember to respond to texts.
A common workaround is to mark threads as unread.
While this may work for some, it’s not ideal due to one major drawback: read messages are marked the same way as truly unread ones, both showing a blue dot.
Hopefully, Apple will enhance this feature in the future. For now, if you often forget to reply and desire AI assistance, RPLY might be your solution.
RPLY was developed by Molly Cantillon, who describes its core purpose to TechCrunch as “making texting feel less burdensome while preserving genuine connections.”

Aimed at individuals who frequently neglect to reply, leaving friends in suspense for days, RPLY employs AI to identify overlooked texts and suggests responses to help users avoid unintentionally ghosting. The AI assistant can autonomously respond to messages in a user’s inbox that have gone unanswered for over 24 hours.
If you have reservations about RPLY examining your iMessages, there’s a local-processing option available. Be sure to go through the privacy policy as well.
The main downside? After a free trial, RPLY comes with a steep subscription fee of $30 per month.
