Introducing the Possible Horizontal Camera Bump of the iPhone 17 Pro

Prior to the iPhone 16’s release, there were hints that it might feature a side-by-side camera setup designed to enhance spatial video capabilities across all three lenses. While this didn’t materialize, a reliable leaker now indicates that this configuration will debut with the iPhone 17 Pro.

Google’s Pixel 9 Pro has already embraced this horizontal camera bar format, and the insider suggests that numerous Android devices are expected to adopt a similar design shortly…

The Weibo user known as Digital Chat Station, who has successfully predicted previous features such as the telephoto lens for the iPhone 16 Pro and an increase in sensor size, indicates that we can expect a horizontal camera bump encompassing all three lenses.

Based on supply chain information, it appears that the iPhone 17 series will indeed be adopting this new design. However, the specific arrangement of the lenses remains unclear. The module will feature a bar track, and many new Android smartphones are likely to transition to this format next year.

The mention of unknown specifics highlights the lack of information on how the three lenses will be organized.

We’ve observed other horizontal camera setups, with some suggesting that the Chinese brand Meizu was an early adopter. However, in that case, the lenses are arranged vertically, which might be more practical considering that many photos and videos are captured in landscape orientation.

In contrast, the iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to feature just a single camera.

Recently, it was reported that Apple might switch from titanium back to aluminum for the iPhone 17 Pro, although this might just be a misunderstanding regarding the terminology used.
