Just a few hours after unveiling the latest iOS 18.2 beta for developers, a new public beta is available. iOS 18.2 public beta 3 is among the final updates before next month’s complete release. Here’s a look at what’s changed.
New updates in public beta 3 before the RC version
Today’s new public beta corresponds to the same software build as the developer beta 4 launched earlier today.
This latest version offers minimal new features or significant changes. A few minor updates have been identified:
- The video scrubber in the Photos app now displays milliseconds.
- Accessibility settings for Camera Control have been integrated into the main Camera Control settings hub, consolidating more options in one location.
- A feature added in the previous beta but only now recognized: you can designate a default Contactless App to replace Wallet in Settings ⇾ Apps.
- Minor design adjustments have been made to Apple Mail.
Overall, beta 3 emphasizes performance enhancements and bug fixes. This makes sense as we near the release of the RC (release candidate) version of iOS 18.2.
Apple has been releasing weekly iOS 18.2 betas, but it’s likely the company will pause next week for the Thanksgiving holiday, so our next beta opportunity will probably be the week of December 2.
This timing suggests that’s when we can anticipate the RC update, leading up to a public launch projected for the week of December 9.
Key features of iOS 18.2
iOS 18.2 represents a major update for users, primarily due to the eagerly awaited new Apple Intelligence features, which include:
- Genmoji: Create your own custom emojis for use across any app.
- ChatGPT integration in Siri: Siri can access ChatGPT’s knowledge, and you can even ask ChatGPT questions directly.
- Image Playground: Generate original AI images in various styles, including animation, illustration, and sketch.
- Visual intelligence: Leverage the iPhone 16’s Camera Control feature to gather relevant information from your surroundings.
- and more
Additionally, there are exciting features beyond AI, including a revamped Mail app, enhanced Find My capabilities, upgrades to Camera Control, and much more.
