iOS 18.3 Suggests Upcoming ‘Invites’ App from Apple for Event Management

This week, Apple rolled out the second beta of iOS 18.3, which may not be the most thrilling update since it lacks significant new features. However, it did uncover information about a possible new application called “Invites.”

Apple Developing a New ‘Invites’ App

DMN initially discovered hints of this upcoming “Apple Invites” app in one of the iOS 18.2 betas. The code was subsequently removed from the final build, but has resurfaced in iOS 18.3 beta 2.

Upon reviewing the code, it appears that the app is intended to assist users in organizing meetings and face-to-face gatherings. While Apple’s Calendar app currently serves this purpose, the forthcoming Invites app is expected to boast some enhanced functionalities.

Code indicates that the Invites app will synchronize with iCloud and will include a web version accessible on iCloud.com. Additionally, it connects with a new iOS 18 daemon named GroupKit, which oversees database models for groups. This daemon has been part of iOS 18.0 since its launch, though it hasn’t been utilized by any Apple applications as of yet.

The app is expected to display a list of individuals invited to specific events, along with their RSVP statuses. It remains uncertain whether Invites will function as a standalone application or if Apple intends to incorporate it with existing system features (like a compact iMessage functionality). It is likely that the app will feature a more engaging interface compared to the current Calendar app’s invitation options.

Apple did not mention this app during WWDC 2024, when iOS 18 was introduced, indicating that the company might just be toying with the concept, which could ultimately be abandoned or postponed to a subsequent iOS update.

In October, DMN reported that Apple is also developing a new App Store specifically for games that will integrate features from Game Center. Although internal builds of iOS 18 have been running this app, it too might be delayed until iOS 19.
