The iOS 18.4 beta 1 has been released, making it available to public beta testers as well. This version brings a significant update to the verification codes feature within Apple’s Passwords app. Here’s what you need to know.
Countdown in iOS 18.4’s Passwords app indicates when codes will expire and reset
Aaron Perris shared on X an exciting enhancement introduced in the first beta of iOS 18.4 for Apple’s Passwords app.
The verification codes now feature a visual countdown timer to indicate the remaining time before they expire and renew.
When you access the Codes section of the app, a new timer will appear in the top-right corner. This timer is a simple ring that gradually fills with green to visually represent the time left on your active verification codes.
Once the ring is fully green, all current codes will automatically expire and reset.

This feature is also visible when viewing the details of a specific password entry. Any entry that contains a verification code will now show the expiration timer alongside the current code.
As Perris pointed out, this enhancement is also included in macOS Sequoia 15.4 and is functional within the Passwords Menu Bar app.
While it may seem like a minor adjustment, it’s an essential addition for a critical security feature that previously lacked a clear indication of a code’s impending expiration.
