iOS 19: Upcoming Features, Launch Date, and More Insights

Incredible as it seems, we’re merely three months away from the unveiling of iOS 19. With the impending launch, speculation regarding new iOS 19 features, compatible devices, and more has begun to emerge.

Is your iPhone compatible with iOS 19?

Each year, one of the key questions arises: which iPhone models will be able to run the latest iOS update? Fortunately, the news for iPhone users in 2025 is positive. According to the reputable source iPhoneSoft, all devices supporting iOS 18 will also be eligible for the iOS 19 update.

This means the devices that will support iOS 19 this year include:

  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS and XS Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 and 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 and 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14 and 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 and 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16 and 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd gen)
  • iPhone SE (3rd gen)

It’s important to note that not every feature in iOS 19 will be accessible on all iPhone models. Certain resource-intensive features, such as Apple Intelligence, will be exclusive to the latest devices.

What’s new in iOS 19?

Changes to Siri (more or less)

As reported by Bloomberg, Apple is set to overhaul Siri’s functionality within iOS 19. Currently, Siri operates through two separate systems: one for executing basic commands, like setting timers, and another for advanced operations. The latter will incorporate new AI enhancements featured in iOS 18 such as personalized context and in-app actions.

With iOS 19, Apple plans to integrate these two systems, which is expected to enhance performance and make Siri more responsive to various requests.

However, Apple has encountered challenges with other significant updates to Siri for iOS 19. It was initially reported that a revised, more conversational Siri was planned for this update, but this development has fallen behind schedule and will not be featured at the upcoming WWDC in June.

Currently, iOS 18 allows ChatGPT integration within Siri and Apple Intelligence. Apple’s aim for iOS 19 was to internalize this functionality while highlighting the privacy advantages of its service in comparison to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg notes: “What I’ve been told strongly indicates that iOS 19 won’t include substantial consumer-facing changes to Apple Intelligence.”

Revamped Camera App

Apart from Apple Intelligence and Siri, reports indicate that Apple intends to redesign the Camera app as part of iOS 19 this year. YouTuber Jon Prosser suggests that the new Camera interface will reflect design principles from visionOS, emphasizing transparency.

Controls at the bottom of the interface are said to be streamlined into two options for “Photo” and “Video.” Users will be able to switch modes within each menu and adjust settings like exposure.

At the top of the interface, quick access will be provided for features such as Live Photos, flash, and various settings related to resolution and frame rate. There’s also a dedicated button for accessing the user’s photo library.

Delays

As we near the iOS 19 announcement in June, Apple continues to finalize features initially revealed for iOS 18 last year. Several remarkable and powerful Apple Intelligence functionalities expected for iOS 18 are still unreleased and anticipated to arrive with iOS 18.4 in March.

Reports from Bloomberg suggest that ongoing iOS 18 development has led to a “larger-than-usual number of features planned for iOS 19” being pushed back to spring 2026. This delay is attributed to engineers still focusing on iOS 18 projects instead of transitioning to the next operating system.

Consequently, iOS 19 might launch without certain key features, which will subsequently be included over the following months through updates like iOS 19.1, iOS 19.2, iOS 19.3, and iOS 19.4.
