iPhone 14 and iPhone SE Discontinued in Many EU Countries

As previously noted, Apple has ceased sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone SE in the European Union due to recent legislation mandating that all smartphones must be equipped with a USB-C port. Following the removal of these models from its online store in certain countries like Switzerland, Apple has now discontinued sales of the iPhone 14 and SE across most EU nations.

Apple Halts iPhone 14 and SE 3 Sales in the EU

According to MacRumors and supported by DMN, the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and 3rd generation iPhone SE are no longer available for purchase on Apple’s online storefront in the majority of EU countries. Legislation mandated that companies had until December 28 to adapt their products to include a USB-C port, or else they would become unsellable in the EU.

The devices are no longer accessible in nations including Germany, Spain, France, Italy, and Portugal. They remain on sale in the UK, as the country is not part of the European Union anymore.

Following the introduction of the iPhone 15 in 2023, the USB-C port became standard across all iPhone models. Apple has also updated nearly all its accessories, such as AirPods and Magic Mouse, to feature a USB-C port. However, the iPhone 14 and iPhone SE are still sold with the Lightning connector.

This situation means that customers in the EU will miss out on the most affordable iPhones for the time being. The iPhone 14, which debuted in September 2022, retained the design of the iPhone 13 while offering slight hardware enhancements, such as Emergency SOS via satellite. Meanwhile, the iPhone SE 3 was launched in March 2022 and still features the classic iPhone 8 design, complete with a Home button.

There are speculations that Apple plans to unveil a new, redesigned iPhone SE featuring a USB-C port early next year, which might explain why the company chose not to remove the current version in the EU. As for the iPhone 14, it is anticipated that this model would phase out with the introduction of the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025.
