iPhone’s Action Mode Assists Parkinson’s Patients in Capturing Videos

Apple dedicates significant resources towards enhancing accessibility, exemplified by features like the hearing aid compatibility for AirPods Pro. Recently, the company highlighted how the iPhone’s Action Mode supports individuals with Parkinson’s in their daily activities.

iPhone’s Action Mode has emerged as an accessibility tool for individuals with Parkinson’s

Apple’s new campaign shot in Brazil not only showcases Action Mode but also underscores its significance for people grappling with hand tremors due to Parkinson’s disease.

For those who may not know, Action Mode is a functionality on the iPhone 14 and newer models that dramatically reduces shakes and vibrations in recorded videos, yielding remarkably stable footage. While some view Action Mode as just another photographic feature, for many, it has evolved into a crucial accessibility enhancement.

The series of videos released by Apple shares the experiences of individuals living with Parkinson’s and illustrates how the iPhone empowers them to capture videos despite their tremors. One featured story focuses on Rodrigo Mendes, who has managed his Parkinson’s diagnosis since 2009 while continuing to enjoy mountain climbing and hiking.

“Climbing the mountain itself is fantastic, but recording it holds significant value too, doesn’t it? The Action Mode on iPhone really impacts the process because it’s challenging to film with shaky hands, you know? […] Ultimately, being able to capture an image on your own makes a world of difference,” Mendes conveys in the video.

Apple also highlighted the narratives of other individuals living with Parkinson’s disease in this new initiative, showcasing the comparison of filming with and without Action Mode.

Mendes’ video is featured on Apple’s official Instagram page, and although it is in Portuguese, English subtitles are available. You can view it below:
