Recent speculations regarding the iPhone 17 indicate a possible change may not occur. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated today that the size of the Dynamic Island across the iPhone 17 series will be “largely unchanged” when compared to the iPhone 16 models.
Analyst Jeff Pu has repeatedly mentioned that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will introduce a “much narrower Dynamic Island” utilizing new “metalens” technology. This advancement would impact the proximity sensor found in the Dynamic Island, allowing Apple to considerably shrink the Face ID sensor’s dimensions.
However, Kuo disagrees. In a succinct post on social media today, he remarked: “I expect the Dynamic Island size to remain largely unchanged across the 2H25 iPhone 17 series.”
Kuo provides no further explanation regarding this assertion. The phrase “largely unchanged” suggests some level of uncertainty. It’s plausible that the iPhone 17 Pro Max—or other models within the series—might present a marginally smaller Dynamic Island, although it may not be as dramatic a shift as prior speculations claimed.
Apple ultimately aims to integrate the iPhone’s front-facing camera and Face ID technology beneath the display, achieving a fully edge-to-edge screen. However, we are still years away from this goal being realized.
The iPhone 17 lineup is projected to be announced this September, and more rumors are anticipated to surface leading up to the official unveiling.
