Yesterday, Apple introduced its new C1 modem alongside the iPhone 16e. However, there’s another Apple-designed chip on the way, and a recent report suggests it will be included in the entire iPhone 17 series.
Upcoming Apple-designed Wi-Fi chip for the iPhone 17 lineup
For some time, rumors have hinted that Apple’s ambitions in connectivity have led to significant internal projects.
These projects include advancements in 5G modems, such as the new C1 and its future successors.
Additionally, Apple has been developing an in-house Wi-Fi solution, which according to a recent report, is set to debut with the complete iPhone 17 lineup.
Ming-Chi Kuo shared insights in a post on X:
In a shift towards self-sufficiency, Apple will expedite the replacement of Broadcom’s Wi-Fi chips with its own. My latest industry survey reveals that all new iPhone 17 models launching in the second half of 2025 will feature Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi chips, while only the iPhone 17 will adopt Apple’s C1 modem chip. This transition, beyond offering cost savings, will improve connectivity across Apple devices.
It was previously mentioned that this new Wi-Fi chip would be included in some iPhone 17 models, but the specifics were uncertain.
Now, it appears that Apple intends to fully replace Broadcom’s Wi-Fi chips in its entire fall iPhone lineup, which encompasses the iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max.
Kuo also stated that this change would “enhance connectivity across Apple devices,” a statement that, while somewhat vague, remains intriguing.
The introduction of the C1 chip improved battery performance, so there’s anticipation around whether the new Wi-Fi chip will yield similar benefits and what the connectivity improvements will entail.
