MagSafe Monday: The Ideal 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger for Travelers

MagSafe Monday: The Ideal 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger for Travelers

Over the past few years, I have experimented with many MagSafe chargers. I often switch the chargers I use on my desk, nightstand, and in my travel bag as I test new models. This foldable 3-in-1 MagSafe charger falls into the realm of “could be fantastic, could be a trick.” It conveniently folds down to a compact size while providing the ability to simultaneously charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, claiming to offer fast charging in a sleek design.

MagSafe Monday: Every Monday, Bradley Chambers reviews the latest innovations in the MagSafe and wireless charging sectors to help you maximize the utility of your compatible Apple devices.

The foldable design is genuinely useful

Many travel MagSafe chargers advertise their portability, but this model truly excels at fitting into a bag without taking up excessive space. Featuring a 180° folding design, it resembles a compact charging mat, neatly tucking away when not in use. Unlike other MagSafe chargers that only offer a fixed angle, this one allows for adjustable positioning based on your activities. Notably, the hinge feels robust, which can be a rarity with budget-friendly MagSafe charging stands.

The Apple Watch charger is discreetly located on the backside, making it invisible if you don’t wear a watch or charge it elsewhere. Similarly, the AirPods charger is placed on the underside and remains hidden when the stand is fully collapsed.

Easy attachment and detachment

MagSafe 3-in-1 dock

The stand’s weight is a double-edged sword; it contributes to its stability as a travel dock but makes it less ideal for nighttime use. The base is relatively lightweight, necessitating either two hands to detach your iPhone or the use of one finger to stabilize it while you lift your iPhone off. However, the MagSafe magnets are impressively strong.

Charging performance

This product advertises fast charging capabilities with the provided 18W adapter (including a USB-C to USB A cable), and in practice, it generally meets that expectation. While it may not be as fast as Apple’s braided MagSafe charger, it comes quite close. You can anticipate achieving a full charge for your iPhone in approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on your starting battery level.

Conclusion

One aspect I overlooked mentioning earlier is the available color options, which provide a refreshing change from many charging docks. It is available in black, blue (both light and dark shades), and a pink variant (labelled rosy red). I value this range of choices, opting for the dark blue version myself. Overall, it stands out as a reliable dock at its price point. It successfully charges all devices, and I appreciate the various angle options. My only concern is that it can be somewhat challenging to lift your iPhone off, although this lightweight design is advantageous for travel.
