Microsoft Introduces One of Apple’s Top Mail Features to Outlook for Mac

Microsoft is rolling out an update to Outlook for Mac that introduces one of the most notable features Apple has recently incorporated into Mail. This update also aligns Outlook for Mac with its Windows and web counterparts regarding this functionality.

The feature from Microsoft is named Recall—no, not that Microsoft Recall—and it functions similarly to Mail’s Undo Send feature, which Apple implemented in 2022.

The concept remains consistent: you notice a typo or perhaps sent an inappropriate message to the wrong recipient. If only you could stop that email from being seen by the other party.

Apple’s approach is fairly straightforward, merely offering a delay of several seconds before the email is actually sent.

On the other hand, Microsoft Recall presents a more comprehensive solution in certain scenarios, though it does have its limitations. Here’s the rundown:

Message recall becomes accessible after you hit Send and is applicable only if both you and the recipient have a Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Exchange email account within the same organization. You cannot recall messages sent to or from a Hotmail, Gmail, or live.com account.

Consequently, it is possible to “unsend” a message beyond the minute or so of the sending buffer, though this only functions between Microsoft accounts within the same organization. This should suffice for internal professional communications.

The Recall feature for Outlook on Mac is currently in beta and is expected to be rolled out to all users in the future.

Should Apple’s Undo Send be more similar to Recall? We invite you to share your opinions below.
