Discord Incorporated is rumored to be involved in talks of being acquired by Microsoft Corporations. The deal is estimated to be worth above $10M by experts. Discord is known as a community where gamers chat.
Discord is on the lookout for potential buyers. Microsoft, arguably one of the largest software companies, has allegedly shown interest. However, all the talks are private and there aren’t any immediate signs of a deal. However, another source said that Discord would prefer a public holding that being sold. Representatives of either company had anything to say on the matter.
Discord’s claim to fame is as a free service for gamers to communicate via video, texting, and over the voice. During the lockdown, the application had found increased use in the fields of education and other events that required social gatherings. Currently, there are over 100 million users on the app. As such, the company has been trying to expand its gamer-centric approach to a place to talk that is accessible to all.
The Situation At Microsoft
Microsoft had recently attempted to buy TikTok and Pinterest Incorporated. The company has been reportedly looking to acquire assets that have a big existing community. Microsoft is keeping up its interest in video-games in line with its recent acquisition of Bethesda Softworks and ZeniMax Media Incorporated.
The Discord acquisition could be an even bigger expansion for their Game Pass subscription on the Xbox. The software giant can look to bundle Discord Nitro, the premium service of Discord, with the Game Pass. This would certainly ensure a spike in subscriptions, even more than the previous number of 18 million.
Discord has repeatedly also established contact with Epic Games Incorporated and Amazon.com Incorporated on the topic of its acquisition. Neither company has responded on the matter.
