According to MKBHD, the definition of a small phone has evolved significantly in recent years, as many manufacturers, including Apple, have moved away from compact sizes. The mini iPhone was replaced by the iPhone 14 Plus in 2022 and hasn’t returned since. Nevertheless, MKBHD chose the iPhone 16 as the Best Small Phone for 2024.
While it features a 6.1-inch display, this size is considered relatively compact by current standards. Marques appreciates how Apple has enhanced this year’s base model by incorporating many features from the Pro lineup while maintaining a smaller and lightweight design. It’s the perfect option for users seeking a robust device without a large screen.

In the realm of photography, the iPhone 16 Pro secured the Best Camera award. Despite acknowledging that other phones, such as the Vivo X200 Pro, boast more sophisticated sensors, he believes the iPhone remains exceptional for its comprehensive capabilities—especially regarding professional video recording.
Still, Marques named Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra as the Phone of the Year. He remarked that while the S24 Ultra might come across as “boring” due to the absence of standout features (like a foldable design), it excels with a “fantastic display, stellar battery life, impressive cameras,” and more. The YouTuber commended the new anti-reflective coating and noted that the S24 Ultra was his most-used phone throughout the year.
