Mozilla Firefox Picks Up A New Feature From Android 13

Mozilla Firefox is pleased to announce the release of three new extensions for the Android version of its web browser. While there is a small selection of extensions available for Firefox on Android, the newest ones enhance functionality and boost privacy. When joining up for a site, these add-ons can conceal the user’s email address, and when sharing a Link, they can erase tracking parameters. Articles can also be listened to using another extension.

The first add-on is Firefox Relay, developed by Mozilla itself. This add-on allows you to mask your email address and receive messages at another, proxy address. It is similar in concept to Apple’s Sign in with Apple feature, which also protects your privacy by hiding your email address. Last year, Mozilla launched its Mozilla Firefox Relay premium service, which allows users to create several email addresses and use their domain names.

The ClearURL extension, which removes trackers from URLs and compresses them, was also released as part of Mozilla’s add-on store. Shared links on Amazon and other social media platforms often contain tracking information in addition to the main Address. Mozilla is also experimenting with a new iOS browser while updating Firefox for Android with similar extensions.

Gecko is the open-source web engine that drives Mozilla Firefox on all other platforms, and the company is working on an experimental browser for iOS based on Gecko. Apple only supports WebKit-based browsers at the time, which means only Safari (which utilizes the WebKit engine) may be used on Apple’s platform. This might change if European laws necessitate that Apple enables browsers to use alternative web engines.
