Each holiday season, HomeKit accessories make it to the top of my gift list. I enjoy transforming my home into a smart environment, but spending personal funds on such gadgets can be a challenge.
Below are some of my preferred smart home picks for this year’s holiday shopping … all of which are compatible with Apple’s HomeKit platform.
Lutron Caséta
For smart lighting solutions, you can’t go wrong with the Lutron Caséta system. Lutron’s smart switches replace your existing wall switches, enabling control through smart solutions, yet you still have the option to manually flip them on and off.
Home Key Smart Locks
One of the standout features of HomeKit is Home Key, allowing you to secure or access your property using your iPhone or Apple Watch with a simple tap.
Home Key-compatible smart locks can vary significantly in price. My top pick is the Aqara Smart Lock U50, and there are numerous other options available too.
Smart Plugs
Smart plugs compatible with HomeKit make fantastic small gifts. They can transform nearly any device into a smart accessory—think lamps, light strips, and even holiday decorations. I particularly recommend the Merros Smart Plug Mini, which is sold in packs of four on Amazon.
Door and Window Sensors
Having recently transitioned from the suburbs to the city, it’s crucial for me to verify that all doors are secured and windows closed. Thankfully, a HomeKit solution exists to help with this.
Smart Thermostat
Investing in a smart thermostat is one of the best enhancements for your home. I recommend the Ecobee Smart Thermostat due to its seamless integration with HomeKit and Siri, along with a sleek design that’s simple to install. It stands as a top choice in smart thermostats.
Water Sensor
As a homeowner, you likely understand that water is a significant threat to your property. A HomeKit water leak sensor will alert you right away if there’s a leak. I suggest purchasing several to place throughout your home.
Eve Flare
The Eve Flare is one of my favorite accessories for HomeKit, perfect for accent lighting. Its portable design allows for easy movement around your home, and it offers wireless charging, making it convenient to reposition wherever you wish for additional illumination.
HomePod or Apple TV
If you’re starting a new HomeKit setup, a home hub is essential to manage your accessories when you’re not home. Either an Apple TV or HomePod can serve this purpose, and through my experience, the Apple TV tends to provide the most consistent reliability.
Wrap Up
These are merely a few of my top HomeKit accessories that would make excellent gifts this holiday season. There are many more options available, which I’ll highlight below.
