New Apple Studio Display: Three Reasons to Anticipate Its Launch This Year

New Apple Studio Display: Three Reasons to Anticipate Its Launch This Year

Apple has an exciting year planned with over 20 new products set to launch. One product that hasn’t received much attention is a revamped Studio Display, yet there are at least three reasons to suspect that a new model could be on the horizon for 2025.

#1: The new Studio Display is a perfect match for the Mac Studio launch

The initial Apple Studio Display was released in March 2022, alongside the very first Mac Studio.

It’s evident in the names: Studio Display and Mac Studio. These two products are designed to complement each other.

Reports suggest that an M4 Mac Studio is anticipated to be unveiled by this summer, likely during WWDC.

Does this guarantee a new Studio Display will launch simultaneously? Not necessarily, but the timing certainly appears favorable. Especially when factoring in my next two points.

#2: Ming-Chi Kuo forecasts a 2025 launch

Studio Display

Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known supply chain analyst and a reliable source of Apple leaks, previously suggested that a new Studio Display would arrive in 2025.

This forecast was made in April 2023. Recently, in September 2024, Kuo reiterated that there have been no updates to his initial claim.

In other words, a 2025 launch for Apple’s new Studio Display is still a very real possibility.

#3: New features correspond with other upcoming Apple launches

Furthermore, previous reports about the forthcoming Studio Display hint at features that align with other anticipated Apple products launching in 2025.

In July 2023, Mark Gurman mentioned that Apple was developing a new monitor with a distinctive added capability; it would function as a smart home display while not in use.

Sound familiar?

Apple is slated to release a new smart home product, referred to as ‘HomePad,’ within the upcoming spring. This device will serve as a smart display and will operate on a new OS tailored for such functionalities.

Thus, the upcoming HomePad could very well pave the way for a refreshed Studio Display, integrating similar features.

Additionally, a few months ago, an anonymous source informed the Upgrade podcast that Apple is developing new 90Hz panels for an M3 iPad Air, an updated iMac, and ‘a next-gen Studio Display.’

Given that a new iPad Air is also expected to be rolled out this spring, it makes sense for the upgraded Studio Display to adopt the same 90Hz technology later in the year.

New Studio Display: Conclusion

All in all, there’s an accumulating body of evidence suggesting that a new Apple Studio Display may make its debut this year. The only caveat is that Mark Gurman did not mention the monitor in his recent overview of Apple’s 2025 lineup.

However, the omission from one report doesn’t necessarily rule it out. It’s quite possible that Gurman simply lacks sufficient information to make a firm statement.

Nevertheless, with a refreshed Mac Studio and Mac Pro on the way, the timing appears optimal for an updated Studio Display.
