Next year, Instagram will introduce AI video editing that utilizes text prompts, as demonstrated by the company’s leader, showing features like altering attire and backgrounds in videos, along with more imaginative additions such as animated characters.
Previously, the company unveiled a demo (below) of entirely AI-generated videos, which they labeled a research initiative, but the technology’s first practical application is set to arrive sooner than anticipated.
Earlier this year, Meta showcased an AI video creation tool named Movie Gen. The brief showcase highlighted videos produced entirely by AI, based solely on user-provided text prompts.
The company indicated that Movie Gen was merely a research tool, implying it wouldn’t be accessible to users for quite a while. You can view the short demo video here:
While the ability to generate AI videos solely from text may take a bit longer, Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, previewed a text-driven AI video editing feature set to launch next year.
I’m really enthusiastic about Movie Gen, our early AI research model that allows almost any aspect of your videos to be changed with simple text prompts. We hope to roll this out on Instagram next year. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
The demonstration showcased Mosseri’s outfit transforming from a cardigan to a leather jacket, a gold chain appearing around his neck, and various backgrounds including snowy fields, the Eiffel Tower, and Times Square. It also featured a 3D cartoon cow and Mosseri morphing into an Animoji-style character.
As for the timeline, the only indication given is a hopeful launch sometime in 2025.
