No Call Of Duty Release Next Year: Go-Slow Call After Recent Series Did Not Match Expectation

The creators of Call Of Duty, Activision Blizzard Inc. may delay their annual release of any fresh version of the game. This is the first time in close to two decades that no new release has been slated according to people in the know.

It is the 1st time since 2005 that we might have to go a whole year shorn of a new version. A source acquainted with the series disclosed that Activision is citing a ‘recent entry’ from the series that did not perform to the expectation of the publishers.

Though Activision has not named the game, it could be Vanguard. The launch sales of the game were down by 40% when compared to the CoD game of 2020. That is a terrible slump for the popular game.

The question arises as to who would be able to step in the shoes of Call Of Duty for 2023. It is reported that Activision could instead go for a free version of the game. That could be out in 2023 and go with the fresh entry that is due this year.

A Free Version Of Call Of Duty Could Be Out For Next Year

The free version could be similar to the Warzone experience as hinted before by the company. Activision has promised to share details in response to the speculation. The company said it had a sufficient range of both free and premium Call Of Duty versions slated for 2022, 2023, and later.

The company has not directly said that there has been no affirmation or denial of rumors of the drop. But staff at Activision have expressed the need to drop the yearly routine of the Call Of Duty.

One short-term expectation is a Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 built by Infinity Ward, the developer, from scratch.

This, and later releases, will be there on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles even though Activision was acquired by Microsoft earlier in the year.
